I am an American student. I am well aware of what my nation is doing in the Kosovo region. I wish this situation could have been resolved peacefully but that was not the case. I want to try and help you understand the way that Americans see this conflict. I want some way of telling you that Americans not monsters, nor are we an evil empire bent on destruction. I know this is hard to believe with NATO aircraft in the sky and cruise missles exploding in the night. Americans do not hate Serbians, this is not a vendetta or an attempt to ruin lives. America was founded on a principle of freedom and since our founding we have always been the land of exiles, a place where those, unfairly treated in other places could go to build a better life. It is painful for the American people to see violent acts being carried out against the Albainians in Kosovo, not because we support the liberation movement but because the roots of our culture are so deeply set in torment of being an outcast of being hated and persecuted for the ways in which we are different. I want peace as much as anyone, I hope it comes quickly.
