It is clear that many misunderstand this war. There is so much that we hear and read from both sides, promoting their political causes and their historical interests. These arguments, however, are secondary to the importance of the lives, well-being and future of the people who are affected by the conflict. All the citizens of Kosovo and Serbia have a right - by virtue of their humanity - to live in peace, liberty and prosperity. The corollary is that Serb and Kosovar people have a responsiblity to actively support democratic institutions that promote just and humane government, free exchange of information, freedom from retribution and repression, and respect for the human, political and economic rights of every individual. That is the 'truth' of the situation. It is the truth today. It will be the truth tomorrow, and next year, and a thousand years from now.
