It is a fact that in the former Yugoslavia, the ethnic Albanians had achieved full national, cultural, and economic prosperity. Unlike anywhere in the world, in post-WWII Yugoslavia this national minority behaved like a guest in a common home, ruthlessly using state funding to mainitain its Asiatic birthrate, creating a university of its own, an academy of arts and sciences, and so on, which was a consequence of widespread tolerance (primarily on the part of the Serbs) with whom they lived together.
With a demographic explosion, their will to spread also grew, but in an uncivilized manner, brutal and violent, which used all means available and endangered their fellow countrymen and neighbors of different nationality with whom they lived for centuries. Evident is their repression against members of their own ethnic community as well (I am certain that not all Albanians share the views of the extremists!). Every opportunity was used do demonstrate open hostility, whose ultimate purpose was not only to destroy the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, but the Serbs in general, thereby destroying clear evidence of their own inhumanity and anti-civilizational attitude. The future of Europe is in co-existence, and not in creating ethnic ghettos such as those envisaged by Albanian power-mongers.
It is improper and undignified to seek solutions with the backing of a foreign power which is what the Albanians are doing at this moment, skillfully distorting the facts and making the bullies the victims. At this point, the Serb nation is the victim, whom the centers of economic power would not forgive its national pride and dignity. The Albanian leaders (and I dare not say, the Albanian people) do not understand that they are but an instrument of long-term strategic interests of the world economic power-wielders, who wish to establish an overland connection with the Caspian Basin and its bountiful oil reserves. To attain this objective, they use all means available, and the ethnic Albanians are but a vehicle that will be discarded the minute this objective is achieved. Those who lead the Albanians today will be held responsible for such an outcome.
At this moment, the Serbs have no other choice but to fight and fight at all costs. Readiness to talk with legitimate ethnic Albanian representatives under the auspices of the international community is a maximum that can be expected; most civilized countries would not even think of accepting negotiations with any national minority, especially not after decade-long efforts to provide for its economic and other prosperity. Ethnic Albanians in Kosovo were far more advanced than Albanians in Albania proper.
But, there is nothing more to be done about it. In my view, the only rational view at this point is to say thank you to all foreign armies and weapons and invite those who until several days ago were our neigbors and friends to resolve all matters of dispute by direct dialogue.
