Dacic: Important To Have Decision on Date for Talks

BELGRADE, June 19, 2013 (BETA) - Prime Minister Ivica Dacic on June 19 said it is important that the EU Council makes a decision on a date for opening accession talks with Serbia on June 28, and does not postpone the matter for another session.

"Any date would be a success for Serbia, while we would be unhappy if the EU Council decided to review Serbia's fulfillment of the criteria, for example, in December," Dacic said in Belgrade.

Dacic further said that the meeting with Kosovo Premier Hashim Thaci in Brussels on June 20 would debate all the issues regarding the implementation of the Brussels agreement, on which the working groups have not reached agreement.

The prime minister also said that after the meeting, EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele would send a letter to the EU member states, and stressed that Serbia would do everything in its power to ensure that the letter contained as much data as possible, on what Belgrade has achieved so far.
